Salesforce moves 37 sales skills into Claude. The UI was the job.

Salesforce moves 37 sales skills into Claude. The UI was the job.

Salesforce named its big Dreamforce ‘26 announcement AIforce on September 15 in San Francisco, and summarized it in one line: AI is going to “replace” the user interface.

The mechanics are literal. People don’t have to come to Salesforce to get work done; Salesforce comes to them, in Claude, Slack, Lightning, or wherever they already sit. Per Salesforce Ben’s report, workers who have never opened a dashboard can now update records, trigger workflows, and ask questions without touching the UI.

Stokes said the load-bearing sentence, not Benioff

In a press briefing ahead of the keynote, Patrick Stokes, president of applications and marketing, gave the line worth copying down.

“I think the value of Salesforce has never been in the UI. It’s been in the platform that stores the way our customers encode their business.”

He went further, and said it probably holds for a lot of enterprise software. “The UI is probably not everybody’s favorite part, right? The UI is probably the thing that often gets in their way and slows them down, because there’s just so much, and there’s so many rules. It can be very, very difficult.” Then the landing: the product “kind of disaggregates the UI and brings AI in to kind of replace it.”

A vendor saying the interface is not where its value sits is an ordinary engineering judgment. Inside this particular ecosystem it lands awkwardly, because the interface is the thing the ecosystem certifies against, hires against, and pays against.

What is actually in the box

AIforce bundles four pieces.

Claudeforce is an extended partnership with Anthropic. It ships first as Salesforce in Claude: Salesforce’s intelligence packed into a prebuilt MCP server inside Claude, with 37 prebuilt sales skills. Analytics with Tableau, plus skills for service, marketing, commerce and industries, are promised “in the near future.” Separately, Claude Code’s Salesforce Development plug-in carries more than 40 skills, plus access to Salesforce’s broader skills library on GitHub and specialized sub-plug-ins. Salesforce in Claude is in beta for all customers.

Slackforce pushes Salesforce context into Slack conversations. Slack CRM lets a user create an account, log notes and update records from a prompt, never opening Salesforce. Slackforce Surfaces, announced shortly before, composes live interactive interfaces inside Slack.

Agentforce Coworker is an AI teammate living in the Lightning interface. It runs inside existing permissions and business rules, and it calls the specialized Agentforce agents a customer has already built. It is available to Salesforce customers now.

Underneath all of it sits the Headless Toolkit, the architecture that exposes every element of the platform as MCPs, APIs, plug-ins, skills and developer tools.

Two guardrails come with it. Every request runs on existing permissions and business rules, so an agent sees only what the person invoking it can see. And there is zero data retention: business data answers the question but is not kept by the model provider.

Two weeks ago they moved the price. Now they moved the screen.

Put this in sequence and the direction is clean.

On September 9 we covered Salesforce moving its pricing unit off the seat at a Goldman Sachs conference: a $550 bundle aimed at a seller’s $1,300 tool stack. That move attacked the premise that one account equals one person.

Before that, the August 26 earnings release introduced the Agentic Work Unit, 3.2 billion of them in a quarter. Our read then: generous numerator, blank denominator.

This move takes the screen. The seat and the screen are the two things this ecosystem counts people with. One account per person, one interface per craft. Loosen both and the question “how many people here work in Salesforce” stops having a countable object attached to it.

The skill is the new unit

The numbers to keep are 37 and 40, not the product name.

What is a skill? It is a task that used to require a person clicking through an interface, packaged so a model can call it directly. That knowledge previously lived in two places: documentation, and the finger-memory of somebody three years into the job. It now lives in a package that can be copied, distributed and version-controlled.

Thirty-seven sales skills is the opening position. Salesforce says service, marketing, commerce and industry skills are coming. If you want to track how far this goes, count skills, not revenue lines.

The blunter claim is the one about authorship. Salesforce says AIforce empowers “anyone to build their own UI” — instead of navigating fixed layouts and fields, a person describes the interface they want and it composes inside Slack, Claude or Coworker. Translated: the intermediary who knew which page the field lived on has lost the reason to be in the room.

Which tier moves

The Salesforce career ladder is cut along the interface. Admins, developers, consultants, architects, business analysts, marketers, DevOps. Salesforce Ben organizes its own site by exactly those roles, with a certification list, a how-to-get-certified guide and free practice exams alongside. That is not decoration. It is twenty years of an ecosystem turning UI fluency into a credentialed trade with a starting salary and a promotion path.

The exposed half of that trade is the configuration-and-navigation half: page layouts, field placement, three menus deep to find the setting, translating a business request into a sequence of back-end clicks. Stokes already published the judgment on it. Internally, that half was never where the money was.

The half that survives is the one he pointed at: the person who encodes the business into the platform. Who defines the permission model, who decides the conditions under which a record may be rewritten, who can say exactly how discount approval runs at this company. AIforce does not touch that work. It raises the stakes on it, because every agent action executes against those rules. Which side of that line people in the ecosystem stand on is the thing that gets settled over the next two years.

There is no runway here. Salesforce in Claude is in beta today and Agentforce Coworker is available to customers now. This is not a 2028 story.

One indicator worth watching: the next Salesforce certification catalogue. If the admin certification stops being the entry rung, the ecosystem job total everyone quotes will quietly change its basis.

Andon Labs now sells the AI boss. Its own store has $60K left.

Andon Labs opened Pion on September 14, a waitlisted platform for handing a business to persistent agents. The same week, a reporter walked into the company's own AI-run San Francisco shop and found no customers and $60,000 left of the original $100,000.
