Optimus functions as a price anchor: the credible threat of a $20,000-class humanoid compresses what every competitor can charge, and that pressure is real whether or not Tesla ships on time. For anyone in automotive assembly, parts handling or light manufacturing, the robot you actually meet on the line over the next 1-3 years is far more likely to be a Figure, an Apollo or a Digit than an Optimus. Over 3-5 years, the number that would change this assessment is a disclosed count of Optimus units doing paid work for a customer who is not Tesla. Until that exists, treat announcements about this program as marketing about a roadmap, not evidence about a labour market.
