August JOLTS: Finance Posts 353K Openings, Hires Just 110K

BLS's August JOLTS put US openings at 7.079M, down 256K, with layoffs at 1.64M and a 1.0% rate. Underneath, finance shows 353K openings against 110K hires, and information shows 123K openings against 44K hires.

April job openings hit 7.62M but US hires slid 419K

BLS's June 2 print pegged April openings at 7.62M — the highest since mid-2024, a 731K jump, the biggest single-month rise since 2021 — while hires fell 419K to 5.12M. Postings aren't turning into offers.
