How Robots Are Reshaping Work

Reuters reports the CSRC's informal humanoid-IPO slowdown, first surfaced September 9, has widened: at least six companies including AGIBOT and Deep Robotics are affected, and some issuers could lose 60% to 70% of revenue if local-government-backed orders were stripped out.

At Dongfeng's science and technology innovation week, chief engineer Zhang Zhenlin named the timeline: humanoid robot Xiaodong enters factories in October, with trial production by year-end and a human-parity target for the end of 2027.

At its September 19 「919」 launch, Faraday Future put nine robot configurations on sale through Amazon and RobotShop, led by a $9,990 Master Mini humanoid and a $12,990 security quadruped. The company that spent a decade not shipping cars says its robotics unit now runs a 30% contribution margin.

Samsung formed a permanent AX/PI team on September 1 inside its semiconductor division to build robots for fab maintenance. The first job category named: contractors and on-site engineers.

Toyota named a number on September 18: 400,000 in-house robots across 60 plants worldwide, starting in 2028, at an estimated ¥1 trillion a year. The stated goal isn't fewer workers. It's saving skills held by 18,000 aging takumi that Toyota has no other way to record.

Tesla's robotics team landed in Ningbo on September 16 and opened a new production audit the next day, aimed at moving Optimus manufacturing capability from Tesla's U.S. plants to Chinese suppliers. Orders are already placed against a 50,000-unit target for 2026.

Agility Robotics unveiled Digit 5 on September 15. The new legs lift 50 lb repeatedly, a band Jonathan Hurst says covers single-person lift tasks in OSHA-regulated facilities, and the robot no longer needs a physical barrier to work near people.

On September 15 Einride and Lidl put a cab-less SAE Level 4 truck into daily operation on a German public road, with no driver and no safety operator aboard. Lidl's stated reason is 「driver shortages」.

Universal Robots launched its seventh-generation platform at IMTS in Chicago on September 14: three higher-payload arms, a controller with 40% more compute in a 30% smaller box, and a tool flange that carries data, power and safety signals all the way to the wrist.

China's National Data Administration said it will develop standards for embodied-AI data, ten days after seven companies asked it for exactly that. CAICT estimates these models need roughly 10 million hours of real-world data. Between 100,000 and 1 million hours exist worldwide.

UBTech said on September 13 that its Liuzhou super smart factory has started production, designed for annual capacity above 10,000 industrial humanoids, with one unit rolling off every 10 minutes. The 14,000-square-meter plant was built jointly with Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Maven Robotics came out of stealth on September 10 with $100M and a plan to build 250 third-generation machines. The station it takes over is the most labor-dense job in a retail distribution center: breaking inbound pallets apart and rebuilding them to each store's order.
